Western Australia has expanded its FuelWatch program, bringing all fuel retailers — including regional sites — under mandatory price reporting rules.
The move is designed to increase transparency across the fuel market and give drivers, including those in the transport industry, clearer visibility on pricing.
What’s Changed?
Previously, FuelWatch covered all metropolitan fuel stations but only around 80% of regional outlets.
That gap has now been closed.
An additional 203 regional fuel retailers have been brought into the system, meaning every fuel station in WA must now comply with FuelWatch reporting requirements.
How the System Works
Under the updated rules, fuel retailers must:
- Submit their fuel prices for the following day by 2pm
- Lock in that price for a full 24-hour period
This means once a price is set, it cannot be changed during that period, giving drivers certainty about what they’ll pay at the pump.
Tougher Penalties for Non-Compliance
The changes also come with stricter enforcement.
Retailers who fail to comply now face fines of up to $4,000, a significant increase from the previous $1,000 penalty.
The WA Government has also indicated that penalties could increase further if non-compliance continues.

Current Fuel Price Trends
Recent data shows some easing in fuel prices, although costs remain high overall.
- Perth metro diesel average: around 243.7 cents per litre (May)
- Down from a 2026 high of 293.1 cpl in April
In regional areas:
- Kimberley diesel average: around 293 cpl in May
- Down from 302.7 cpl in April
While prices have softened slightly, they remain elevated compared to historical levels.
Strong Usage Across the State
FuelWatch continues to be widely used by drivers across WA.
The platform recorded:
- Over 5 million website visits in March
- Nearly 3.9 million visits toward the end of April
This level of engagement highlights how important fuel price transparency has become for both everyday motorists and the transport industry.
